Dr. Yoonkey Nam is an Associate Professor in Bio and Brain Engineering at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). He received the B.S. degree from Seoul National University in 1997, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2003 and 2005, respectively. Since 2006, he has been with KAIST, where he is now an Associate Professor of Bio and Brain Engineering and principal investigator of Neural Engineering Laboratory. He served as the organizing committee member of MicroTAS 2015 and IEEE EMBC 2017, and as the Academic Program Chair of The Korean Society of Medical & Biological Engineering (KOSOMBE, 2010-2011), and The Korean BioChip Society (KBCS, 2017). His current research interests include the application of micro- and nanotechnology in neuroscience, Brain-on-a-Chip technology, electrical and optical neural interface technology, and multichannel neural signal processing. He is the recipient of Young Biomedical Engineer Award from KOSOMBE (2011), and the Early achievement Award from KBSC (2013), and elected as ‘The Top 100 Technologies and Leaders in 2025 Korea’ from The National Academy of Engineering of Korea in 2017.
